Featured Breeder: Nowak Ranch
The family farm was started in 1910 when my great grandpa William
Nowak bought property along the Brazos River Bottom just south of
Sealy, Texas. Throughout my life, I loved the weekends spent on the
farm camping and fishing. I had always dreamed of owning some cattle
and being able to continue to enjoy the country life with my
children.
In 2006 my dreams became a reality. I started taking agriculture
classes and looking into which breed of cattle I wanted to raise. I
decided on registered cattle because I wanted to produce a product I
could be proud of. I wanted to know where the cattle originated and
the bloodline. I wanted cattle that would produce quality meat and
be able to handle the Texas coastal climate. I found the Red Brangus
breed. I did my research and learned about EPD’s. I studied cattle
at local shows.
My wife Toni and I bought our first bred heifer in the 2006 CX
Advantage sale and our second heifer in the 2007 Genetic Edge sale.
My Aunt Billie Jean Nowak and mother Joann followed up at the
Sureway Stock Farms’ dispersal sale buying four more for our herd.
We have started to artificially inseminate (A.I.) the cattle to a
top Red Brangus Bull and are eagerly awaiting the outcome.
For the new cattleman, I can say I feel it is a worthwhile
experience and the International Red Brangus Organization has
welcomed me and my family with friendship and encouragement. It
takes a lot of time and patience to own registered cattle, but you
will produce a product you can be proud to put your brand on.
