Subasta, Hacienda La Escondida Sale - September 6, 2003
Guillermo
Zanbrano Jr. hosted over 300 buyers at his annual Hacienda la
Escondida Production Sale held in Linares, Nuevo Leon just southeast
of Monterrey. Fifty highly selected Red Brangus, Beefmaster and
Brahman bull and heifer lots were offered. The highest selling lots
were International Red Brangus bulls with an average of $2342.00.
The highest
selling bull was an International Red Brangus Bull purchased by Luis
Martinez of LM Ganadria in Linares.

International Red Brangus Board of Directors meets with 33 Leading
Red Brangus Breeders from Mexico
On September 5, 2003, the IRBBA
Board of Directors met with a large group of Mexican Cattlemen to
discuss the future of the cattle business in Mexico and the
formation of a Mexican Red Brangus Breeders Association. The Mexican
Cattlemen were interested in the developing and promoting the Red
Brangus Breed in Northern Mexico. The meeting was hosted by
Guillermo Zambrano Jr. who is the president of the Agriculture
Commission of Nuevo Leon a director of the IRBBA. The meeting was
held at the Presidente Intercontinental Hotel In Monterrey, Nuevo
Leon.
Pete Keeling, president of the
IRBBA, welcomed the guests and described the attributes of Red
Brangus cattle that have blood percentages that are 3/8 Brahman and
5/8 Angus. Specific attributes included heat tolerance, excellent
maternal capabilities, marbling and tenderness of the beef and feed
conversion ratios of the Red Brangus cattle. Don Cox discussed the
start up of his Red Brangus operations and provided suggestions for
the Mexican breeders to help in the development of their herds. Don
also unveiled the new “Brangus Beef” slogan that will be implemented
by the IRBBA to promote the excellent beef produced by Red Brangus
cattle.
Guillermo Zambrano, outlined
the steps that have been implemented in the development of the
Mexican Red Brangus Breeders Association. The association will
accept Cattle from the International Red Brangus association as
foundation cattle. There will also be a breeding up program that
will use selected females from Beefmaster, Simbrah, Brangus and
other Brahman derivative breeds that when bred for multi generations
to 3/8 x 5/8 International Red Brangus bulls will be admitted to the
Association’s herd book. The association will have two examiners who
will inspect the cattle that are bred up and admission into the herd
book will be strictly administered. The meeting concluded with a
banquet hosted by Mr. Zambrano. |
